The art of intentional holiday gifting.

Let’s be intentional with gift giving this year. What does intentional gift giving mean to you? To me, it means putting meaningfulness and thoughtfulness into a gift based on the receivers wants and needs.

As we approach the season of giving, it's a great time to reflect on the true meaning of gift giving. This year, let’s make it a priority to be intentional about our gifts. But what does intentional gift giving really mean? For me, it’s all about putting thoughtfulness and meaning into a gift that aligns with the recipient's wants and needs. Of course it goes without saying that gifts should never be expected and are always appreciated – however, if you choose to give someone a gift this holiday season, here are some key considerations to ensure your gift-giving is both thoughtful and appreciated:

6 Tips for Intentional Gifting:

  1. Plan Ahead: Avoid the last-minute rush that often leads to mediocre & meaningless gifts. Start thinking about your gift ideas early in the year. Keep a list of potential gifts in your phone notes to help you stay organized and thoughtful. For next year, try keeping a running note of gift ideas. I especially like keeping a note in my phone year-round because when it comes time to shop, it’s possible I may have forgotten important details. Not to mention if I’m out and about and see a must-have gift, have an ‘ah ha’ idea come to mind, or a store is having a sale, I have my list on-hand and can jot notes down anytime, anywhere! P.S. I keep a list for items I may want to buy on Black Friday too!

  2. Find Joy in Giving: Choose gifts that bring you joy to give. When you give without expecting anything in return, the act becomes more meaningful and genuine.

  3. Include a Gift Receipt: For items that may not be the perfect fit, consider including a gift receipt. This allows the recipient to exchange it if necessary, ensuring they end up with something they truly enjoy.

  4. Be Mindful of Your Budget: Gift giving doesn’t have to break the bank. If a big-ticket item is out of your budget, consider giving a gift card toward it or contributing a smaller amount, along with a thoughtful note explaining your intention. For example, many individuals choose to purchase gift cards from Mood Skin Co. for their loved ones (BTW thank you for supporting my small business) – many upon wishlist request of the recipient (you know who you are). Some gift-givers opt to purchase a gift card with a balance sufficient to cover an entire treatment (and sometimes even more), while others may opt for a card with a smaller amount intended to contribute towards part of a treatment or product. Either way – both options are perfectly wonderful & generous! Trust me when I tell you: not a single client has ever grumbled about the balance on their gift card Nope, they’re all smiles and high-fives, especially the ones who usually wouldn’t think to treat themselves to luxury treatments!

  5. Consider their Preferences: Make sure to tailor your gift to the recipient's tastes. Avoid the temptation to give something you think they ought to have or that you personally value. Remember, it’s about them, not you.

  6. Consider Experiences Over Items: Think about gifting experiences rather than physical items. This could include tickets to a concert, a cooking class, a weekend getaway, or maybe a treatment from Mood Skin Co. (hint, hint)! Experiences create lasting memories and can be more meaningful than material possessions.

The bottom line? While we may not always hit the mark with our gift choices, the thought and effort behind them count for a lot. It’s important to remember that gift giving is a personal expression of care and appreciation. So as you navigate this holiday season, focus on being intentional with your gifts. After all, the best gifts come from a place of understanding and love.

Let’s make this year one where we celebrate the joy of giving with intention and thoughtfulness! Last resort? You can always show up with a bow on your head and have your presence be your present!
